Our 2023 Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) Series concludes with a celebration of the women singers as well as local jazz legends with performances by Denise King and the Renaissance Sextet.
Denise King holds the preservation and presentation of the traditional style of jazz singing close to her heart. She has sung at almost all of the top venues in Philadelphia, several in New York, Paris, Turkey, Brazil, Africa, Germany and Japan during the past 25 years. Denise has been inspired by female singers such as Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Carmen McCrae and Nina Simone. With reverence, nostalgia, and affection for these influences, Denise will perform songs in homage to all the great ladies of jazz music.
The Renaissance Sextet, led by Leon Jordan Sr., will be celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month by featuring the music of our local jazz luminaries such as Jaco Pastorius, John Blake Jr. and even our own Andrew Neu and Dave Posmontier. The Renaissance Sextet features many horn players, delivering a powerful sound that is sure to get you out of your seat and dancing in the grass!
Bring your own food, refreshments, a lawn chair or a picnic blanket, and make yourself at home on the front lawn of the Hatfield House!
( In the event of rain, performances will be moved inside the house with limited seating on a first come, first serve basis. Doors open at 12:30 PM )

On this date, "Healing through the Land: Black Faces in Green Spaces" (a photo exhibit) will be displayed at Hatfield House. This exhibit features photographs taken by Black and Brown people in green spaces around the city and highlights the importance of inclusive access to natural lands. Participants will be able to view the exhibit in between concert sets. Visit this page for more information on this exhibit and/or to participate in the pre-event walk led by WeWalk PHL.

PARKING/GETTING THERE: There is very limited parking at the Hatfield House. To enter the lot, turn right after the Aldi on Girard Avenue (you may have to actually turn into the Aldi lot to turn around, if not travelling from the east). Due to the limited parking, we strongly recommend arriving with Uber, Lyft, Indego Bike Share, or public transportation.
