Discover the fascinating past and present of Fairmount Park on this fun and engaging 3 hour scavenger hunt!
After a three-year pandemic hiatus, we’re thrilled to announce the return of the one day, in-person Historic Fairmount Park Scavenger Hunt! Unlike the self-paced digital scavenger hunts from the past couple years that were spread out over many weeks, competitors in this hunt use bicycles to traverse Fairmount Park over the course of a few thrilling hours!
If you participated in the 2020 & 2021 summer scavenger hunts, OcTOURber, or WinTOUR, this is your chance to try a more competitive and intense game that also guarantees team fun and offers the chance to meet your fellow competitors while on the move. If you’ve never participated in the scavenger hunts, this special event is a great chance to get to know what it’s all about!
Best of all, we’ll continue the tradition of a postgame party at the Cosmic Cafe's Ciderhouse bar, with well deserved drinks and a prize ceremony!
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
- Participants will meet at Lloyd Hall at 10:00AM on Saturday, September 24.
- Teams of 2-6 may complete the scavenger hunt on by bicycle (please wear a helmet!) or any other legal form of transportation. Specify your team name and your team contact person when you register or write in “need a team.”
- Teams will use a free Android/iPhone compatible app called GooseChase which can be downloaded by all team members prior to the event. Team members will receive a password after signing at the the Llyod Hall check-in, which will give them access to all the missions. MORE DETAILS TO COME!
- Each team receives a complimentary map of Fairmount Park.
- This event takes place in light rain or shine. Dress appropriately!
- Every team is a winner! Each team is eligible to win swag at the end of the hunt at Parks on Tap at Fairmount Water Works. We plan for every team to win something! HOWEVER, THERE IS NO PRIZE FOR FASTEST TO FINISH. Safety is our highest priority. All teams have until 2 pm to complete the missions. Please take your time and be very alert to cars and pedestrains while biking in the park.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: I participated one day, in-person Historic Fairmount Park Scavenger Hunt in the past (2017, 2018, or 2019), is it going to be the same experience?
A: Yes and no. It’ll basically be the same style of fast-paced competition on a Saturday morning, but there’s a few key differences:
There’s almost* all NEW clues / missions! (* ok, we might sneak in a few oldies but goodies)
We’re using a different, more user friendly app called GooseChase
This is a RUNNING / BICYCLE ONLY scavenger hunt. E-bikes are allowed, but motor vehicles are not permitted. Please keep in mind that the course covers about 10 miles of sometimes hilly park land on a possibly warm afternoon.
Q: Why do we have to pay to play?
A: This event helps fundraise for the park and your ticket helps cover the cost of the GooseChase app. If you’re interested in participating in a free park scavenger hunt, stay tuned for more info about the return of WinTOUR in December.
Q: Do we have to stick to the 10 am - 2 pm time frame?
A: The schedule is a follows:
- 10:00 am: team check-in
- 10:15-10:30 am: Hunt Launch! Event begins for all teams in multiple waves
- 1:00- 1:30 pm: teams return to Ciderhouse
- 1:30-2:00 pm: awards ceremony
All teams must arrive on time at 10 am for the morning check-in / hunt launch. If your team finishes early or decides to quit, you may leave at any time, but please alert a member of our staff or through the GooseChase app so we’re aware of your early departure before the 1:30 awards ceremony.
