ABOUT ABOUT

Join WeWalk PHL for a guided hike followed by an art exhibit, concert, and artist talk!

We'll start out at the Lemon Hill Trail with a guided nature hike overlooking the river. We'll then walk to Hatfield House to view a community curated exhibition titled "Healing through the Land: Black Faces in Green Spaces". This exhibition features photographs taken by Black and Brown people in green spaces around Philadelphia. It is a collaboration between Fairmount Park Conservancy and various community groups, and it expresses the importance of inclusive access to natural lands. This fundamental sense of belonging has been reinforced by outdoor organizations welcoming Black and Brown people, such as WeWalk PHL, GirlTrek Philadelphia, and In Color Birding Club. These groups engage and connect residents to free wellness resources and activities such as: walks, kayaking, bird watching, bike riding, gardening and cooking, and land stewardship practices.

This exhibit is both a celebration and reclamation of our relationship with the land, our community, our ancestors, and ourselves. The images are a testament to the joy, nourishment, community building, stewardship, and most importantly, individual and collective healing through an intimate connection to the land.

In addition to photographs, the exhibition will feature the handmade quiltwork of Cynthia Malachi White. A member of the prestigious African American Quilt Circle of Durham, NC. White’s stunning work will take viewers on a cultural journey through the path of fabric and thread.
