ABOUT ABOUT

RACE DAY: Saturday, June 3, 8 AM - 5 pm

LOCATION: Saint Joseph's University Boathouse (2200 Kelly Drive Philadelphia PA 19129)

We're excited to announce that for the second year, we'll be entering a team in the Annual Independence Dragon Boat Regatta (IDBR), the nation's biggest competition of its kind! Hosted by the Philadelphia Dragon Boat Association on Saturday, June 3, 2023, IDBR features 90 teams racing on the Schuylkill River in three heats of 500 Meters each (Qualifying, Semi-Final, and Final).

Limited spots are available on our boat of “Park Champions” who will be going for the gold! At the very least, you’ll have a blast paddling with a friendly group of passionate park people!

HALF DAY OPTION: NEW as of 6/1 is the option to participate in half of the day (roughly 8-12* or 12-4). If doing a half day, you would compete in some but not all of the races. The first race of three races is at 9:30 am. However, we will not know the timing of our second race until the first race is complete. *The AM group may be needed to stay a little later (if possible) if the second race ends up being around noon.

JOIN THE TEAM > GET A T-SHIRT!
All team members will receive a complimentary Fairmount Park Conservancy t-shirt so you can show your park pride! Limited sizes available (as of 6/1). John your team captain will follow up to get your size.

FAQ

Why this price?

This price covers registration for the race itself. A small portion of the entry fee raises funds for the Fairmount Park Conservancy. The rest benefits IBDR chosen charities, including: the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Memorial Fund and The Liberty USO of PA and Southern NJ.

Do I need dragon boating experience?

No experience necessary!

Is this race for a specific age or gender?

No! It’s a coed team and ALL are welcome! Similar to canoeing, dragon boat paddling requires moderate arm & upper body exertion.

Where do we go between races? Can we stay and watch when we’re done?

Yes! Our team will have a reserved space along the river to watch and relax between our races. We'll have a pop-up tent and food for an all-day tailgate!

Is parking available?

Yes, there is free parking located up the hill at Mount Pleasant Mansion (about a one mile walk from our tent). We’ll follow up with additional information.

I’ve registered, but I'm not sure that I can attend the race. What should I do?

We ask that you register for this event only if you’re confident you can be there on race day. However, if unexpected circumstances come up, we can issue a full refund if you notify us at least 14 days from race day. If it’s any sooner, you cannot receive a refund and we ask that you find a friend or family member to replace you.
