Join Fairmount Park Conservancy, the Jasyn Brazoban Quartet, and The Mini Q’s featuring Denise King for live musical performances at Lemon Hill Mansion on Saturday, February 17 from 1:00-4:00 PM.
As part of Black History Month, these Philadelphia-based musicians will be playing original compositions in addition to compositions from influential Black artists and composers. Set in the stunning oval room of the historic Lemon Hill Mansion, this intimate concert will showcase the brilliance of Black artists throughout the last century. From Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and Nina Simone to Lee Morgan and Hank Mobley – you’re sure to enjoy this soulful musical journey through the decades.
In between sets, there will be mini-tours of Lemon Hill Mansion and also light snacks and drinks available (donations appreciated).
The event is sponsored by AFM Local 77 (the Philadelphia Musicians’ Union) and the Music Performance Trust Fund.

PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE
SET I – 1:15-2:15 PM: Jasyn Brazoban Quartet
Jasyn Brazoban, a versatile Freelance Trombonist and Bandleader based in Philadelphia, is a University of the Arts graduate (BA ’22 & MAT ’23). With a diverse musical background spanning Jazz, Gospel, Salsa, Pop, and more, Jasyn has made his mark as a sought-after freelance trombonist, contributing to ensembles nationwide. Notably, Jasyn received a Grammy nomination for his trombone performance on Tye Tribbett’s album “All Things New: Live in Orlando.” In March 2020, he founded The Chronicles, a Jazz Fusion group that showcases his commitment to professionalism and musical excellence. His dynamic artistry is a testament to the thriving talent in Philadelphia’s vibrant music scene.

SET II – 2:45-3:45 PM: The Mini Q’s featuring Denise King
Mini Q’s Bio: The Mini Q’s have been a staple on the Philadelphia Jazz scene since pianist/organist Luke Carlos O’Reilly and guitarist Ben O’Neill joined forces to create the hard-hitting classic organ trio in 2004. Pulling from a wide range of influences, The Q’s meld the rich and flavorful jazz tradition of Jimmy Smith, Don Patterson, Pat Martino, and Grant Green with the hip hop and soul sensibilities of J Dilla, Jill Scott, TSOP, and an ever-expanding repertoire of spirituals and hymns. After performing at numerous well-known clubs and venues between Philadelphia & NYC, the Q’s now have 20 years of experience together as well as 2 studio albums and 1 live album. They are currently working on releasing their 4th album, which will come out on Spring Garden Records by the end of Summer ’24.
Denise King Bio: Influenced by Nancy Wilson, Marlena Shaw, and Sarah Vaughan, Denise King is an expressive, big-voiced singer who combines jazz with elements of R&B, blues, and gospel. King was born and raised in Philadelphia, where she was exposed to R&B as a child and discovered jazz at 12 thanks to an uncle who was an avid record collector. After graduating from high school, the Philadelphian entered the medical field and earned her living as a technician and a family-planning counselor. King was in her early 30s when she started doing club gigs around Philly, and eventually, she became a full-time singer. Though she’s no stranger to standards, one of King’s strong points has been her ability to provide jazz interpretations of rock and soul hits – in fact, she has turned everything from Santana’s “Evil Ways” to Ruby & the Romantics’ “Our Day Will Come” into swinging acoustic jazz. King started recording in the 1990s, offering Live In Japan: I Remember You in 1993, Now Ain’t That Love in 1996, and Simply Mellow in 1997.

PARKING/GETTING THERE: There is plenty of parking in the lot behind Lemon Hill Mansion and along Lemon Hill Drive. As always, never leave valuables in our car! If traveling to Lemon Hill by public transit, the nearest stops are at 31st and Girard Ave and Art Museum Drive – both are a half-mile walk from the start. The nearest Indego bike station is at 31st and Girard – also a half-mile from the start.
