Celebrate fall with a series of free drop-in events at the new Anna C. Verna Playground!

Drop-in programs are on select dates throughout the fall (dates below) with different activities each day. Families can drop in anytime between 9:30–11:30 AM**. All ages are welcome. Registration is appreciated but not required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

FALL 2023 ANNA C. VERNA PLAYGROUND POP-UP DATES

  • Saturday, October 28 I 9:30–11:30 am: Storytime with the Free Library + Face Painting
    Celebrate your favorite fall festivals by joining Fairmount Park Conservancy and the Free Library’s Thomas F. Donatucci Branch for themed craft and storytimes in the park. Participants are welcome to come dressed in costume, and artist AliciaWilbyArt will also be there doing free Halloween and Day of the Dead face painting throughout the morning. Storytimes will occur every half hour and will last roughly 15 minutes. The face painting line will be cut off slightly before the end time to allow the artist to finish in time.
     
  • Sunday, October 29 I 9:30–11:30 am: Fall Flavors and Flowers with Greener Partners and Botanic Village
    Embrace the beauty of fall with Fairmount Park Conservancy, Greener Partners, and Botanic Village on Sunday, October 29 from 9:30–11:30 AM. Dig into soil, smell herbs, taste freshly harvested vegetables, and even learn how to use the pedal power of a bike with Greener Partners’ popular Farm Explorer mobile. The Farm Explorer mobile brings seed-to-plate education to schools and community organizations. After tasting some fall flavors, join Botanic Village, a southeast Philadelphia florist, and make a mini flower bouquet* featuring vibrant fall flowers and foliage. *Limited to the first 50 participants
     
  • Saturday, November 4 I 10:30 am–12:30 pm: Music in the Park with Mister John’s
    Sing, dance, and even learn to play a new instrument in this interactive music program with Fairmount Park Conservancy and Mister John’s Music. Mister John's offers music education for all with private lessons, adult group classes, early childhood programs, summer camps, and more.
     
  • Saturday, November 11 I 9:30–11:30 am: Storytime with the Free Library + Face Painting
    Celebrate Love Your Park Week by joining Fairmount Park Conservancy and the Free Library’s Thomas F. Donatucci Branch for nature-themed craft and storytimes in the park.   • Sunday, November 12 I 9:30–11:30 am: Art in the Park with Fleisher Art Memorial
    Join Fairmount Park Conservancy and Fleisher Art Memorial’s ColorWheels mobile to create a nature-inspired craft. Dubbed the “Swiss Army Knife of art,” Fleisher’s mobile art studio ColorWheels has delivered creative experiences directly to community members in neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia since 2012.

PARKING/GETTING THERE: There is plenty of free parking in the lot across from the playground. There is additional parking in the lot between the boathouse and the Swedish Museum (a 2-3 minute walk from the playground). As always, never leave valuables in your car! If traveling by public transit, use SEPTA to travel to Broad Street Line’s NRG Station (last stop). The nearest Indego bike station is at Broad and Pattison. 

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY: In the event of heavy rain or other severe conditions, the event will be canceled and registrants will be notified via email.
