Go take a hike!

Philadelphia's Fairmount Park System is one of the largest urban park system's in the world. This fall, the Fairmount Park Conservancy is offering several opportunities to get into the woods and discover some of the hidden gems of our park system. Enjoy a unique and all-levels paced hike through the park with one of our trusted guides.

HIKE DATES/LOCATIONS:
Please note that different dates correspond to different places in the park!

Sunday 10/5: Wissahickon with Brad Maule 10:00 AM
Head for the Wissahickon and join Brad Maule (who's doing a yearlong project collecting, sorting, and saving trash there) for a loop hike of the park's greatest hits. We'll descend the Cresheim Valley, stop at Devil's Pool, cross Fingerspan, and come back into civilization through Carpenter's Woods. Meet at Allen Lane train station. Ride the Chestnut Hill West Line there or you can bike or drive. Parking available on Cresheim Road, Nippon Street, and Mt Airy Ave near Allen Lane train station.

Saturday 10/18: Haddington Woods with Luke Rhodes 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Join Luke Rhodes, Project Coordinator at the Fairmount Park Conservancy for a guided hike through the beautiful, old-growth Haddington Woods section of Cobbs Creek Park. Luke will give a history of natural land restoration efforts over the last 7 years and explain the plans for the Haddington Woods restoration project. Meet at Bocce Court parking lot at Race and Daggett St. Closest El stop is 63rd on the Market-Frankford line (1/2 mile). Walk will be approximately 1.5 miles and take 60-90 minutes.

Saturday 10/25: East Fairmount Park with Eric Dolaway 10:00 AM
Hike the Boxers' Trail in East Fairmount Park, one of the city's most beautiful, historic and under utilized urban trails.  We will meet at Mander Playground located at 33rd and Diamond Street and walk to the trailhead located at Reservoir and Randolph Drive. Your trail guide, Eric Dolaway, will lead you down the path along Randolph Creek to the ridge overlooking Kelly Drive. The trail will include several steep but short inclines.  Eric will share the trail's unique and varied history while introducing you to the city's best spot for watching regattas and interesting plant life.

Saturday 12/13: Belmont Plateau Trails with Bob Thomas 9:00 AM
Discover the hidden trails around the Belmont Plateau and join local historian, Bob Thomas for a 5-6 mile, all-levels hike. The hike will begin at the Car Barn Parking Lot (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/39.9866646,-75.2109198//@39.9861714,-75.2092998,271m/data=!3m1!1e3) and take approximately 3 hours. You'll see portions of the Belmont Plateau Cross Country Trail, the historic Fairmount Park trolley bed, and historic mansions including Chamounix and Lilacs House.
